Our recent PLP Network Twitter chat experiences were such a rockin’ success that Connected Educator Month seemed like the perfect time to launch yet another #plpnetwork Twitter chat.
On Thursday, August 9, at 7 p.m. EDT (NY), you’re invited to join us on Twitter for a live stream of connected learning tweets. The topic for our chat:
The “How” of Connected Learning
With everything that’s out there, how do you get started? What steps do you take to become connected?
Let’s use this chat to share our tips for success both with the PLP community and beyond.
Of course, we have prizes galore for participating in the chat! We will be giving away A&E History Channel DVDs, a copy of Sheryl and Lani’s latest book, The Connected Educator, and for one lucky winner, FREE enrollment into a Fall PLP eCourse of their choosing!
What is a Twitter chat?
A Twitter chat is a lot like any other online chat, where people gather to talk about a specific issue. The great thing about a Twitter chat is it brings people together from all over world to a central area (Twitter) where they can interact in real time. To join a Twitter chat, you just need to know what hashtag is being used. A hashtag is simply a way to search topics on Twitter and is recognized as a word preceded by a “#,” such as #education or #plpnetwork.
How do I participate?
You can simply go to Twitter.com and login, then type #plpnetwork into the search box at the top. If you keep refreshing the search results, you will see the chat stream as it comes in through Twitter.
You may also use an application specifically designed to monitor Twitter chats. The most popular options are Twitterfall, TweetChat, TweetGrid, and TweetDeck. These applications will allow you to enter your search term (#plpnetwork) and show a stream that will update in real time (or based on how often you tell the application to refresh the stream).
If you are new to chatting on Twitter, check out our post, How to get the most out of participating in a Twitter chat, for tips and ideas for joining us Sunday night!
Want a reminder email?
Fill out this form, and we will send you a reminder email before the chat, so you don’t miss out! We’ll also send tips on getting the most out of a Twitter chat and our free Twitter Handbook for Teachers.
Twitter Chat Giveaway!
We’ll give away lots of prizes during the chat, but here’s your first chance to enter. Copy and paste the tweet below and shout it out loud in the Twitterverse:
