June 9th Coffee Chat: The Homeschooling Parent: Making it Work

Many of us were unexpectedly thrown into some form of homeschooling this past spring, join us tonight as we talk about “The Homeschooling Parent: Making it Work”.

In this week’s coffee chat we connect around what has worked, problem-solve the situations that didn’t work, and consider possibilities for moving forward with homeschooling. 

We covered three big questions around homeschooling:

Does it have to look a certain way?

It was a resounding NO! Homeschooling allows you to fully personalize what you do, during the chat Sheryl, Christen and Jennifer each shared some ways they’ve managed homeschooling or the emergency online learning that we did this past spring.

Do we have to do it alone?

Again, No! In fact it’s more powerful when you build connections with other adults, experts and kids! Even in this time of social distancing there are ways to connect with others. Sheryl shared a variety of ways she brought in experts and experiences for her children when she homeschooled.

How do you manage different grade levels in one home?

Quick answer, use themes! Find a theme that your children are interested in and build learning experiences around it. Activities can easily be adjusted for age, but kids can still learn together.

Jennifer Bloomingdale graduated from the College of St. Rose with a Bachelors in Childhood Education and a Masters in Educational Technology.
