Why did you go into education?
What motivated you to become a teacher or educational leader?
I bet if you’re like me, it’s because you wanted to make a difference. You wanted to be able to speak into, to mold and mentor and guide young people’s lives so they could become strong, productive citizens. What really attracted me to education was the desire to help children that had grown up in challenging circumstances — those whose circumstances have conspired against them — children living in poverty. I know what it’s like to grow up in poverty, and I also know what it’s like to overcome the circumstances I was born into. I am passionate about helping kids who were just like me, and that’s why I created this course.

Future-Proofing Students Living in Poverty draws from best practice, research, and my own personal experience, both as an educator who has taught children living in poverty and as a child who grew up in poverty herself.

Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach
