The SHIFT

The world is changing. Our children are shifting…

New and emerging Web technologies are connecting our children in ways never before possible. Through blogs, social networking sites, multimedia and other Web 2.0 tools, their worlds are SHIFTING… becoming more and more networked and engaging, with environments for learning and collaborating that look little like our traditional classroom spaces.

…but schools are not shifting with them.

Schools have by and large been resistant to these shifts. But resistance is futile. This networked landscape of learning challenges us to re-envision what we do in our schools and classrooms or risk a growing irrelevance in our students’ lives. The urgent question before every teacher and school leader is this: When will we realize the potentials of these technologies in our own professional and personal learning practice and act on behalf of our students and our profession? When will we SHIFT?

Our unique approach

Powerful Learning Practice’s long-term, job-embedded professional development program offers a unique opportunity for educators to:

  • Work together collaboratively to understand 21st Century learning environments through immersion in these environments
  • Re-envision their curriculum in ways that are relevant for today’s learners
  • Manage change through communities and networks
  • Make the Shift

This research-based model is currently enabling thousands of educators around the world to experience the transformative power of the social Web. These educators are re-envisioning their personal learning practices, face-to-face in their own schools, and online in networks and global communities of inquiry.
